A Look Inside This Issue
Featured Article: Harnessing the Power of Photography to Inspire Conservation, with Frans Lanting
Wild Lens Magazine publisher Michelle Liles had the honor of interviewing Frans Lanting, one of the greatest wildlife photographers of our time. Lanting discusses his efforts to preserve the breathtaking natural world of Monterey Bay in Northern California. His influential community awareness projects, Bay of Life and One Ride at a Time, have brought global attention to the region’s unique ecosystems. Lanting’s ethical approach to wildlife photography, along with his immersive tours and workshops, offer unparalleled opportunities for photographers to experience nature firsthand.
"Monterey Bay is a unique confluence of land and sea, shaped by the forces of fog and fire—two elements that define the ocean and the land. But these systems are also influenced by human actions. So, we portray Monterey Bay dynamically. We look back in time to see how it came to be and look forward to examine how ecosystems everywhere are being influenced by people." – Frans Lanting
We also highlight Sri Lankan photographer Avanka Fernando and his stunning portfolio showcasing the diverse wildlife of his home country. Denise Peterson shares an incredible story through her camera trap images of “America’s Ghost Cat” – Utah’s mountain lions – and the challenges they face due to regional hunting and trapping legislation. Additionally, regular contributor Ranjan Ramchandani presents a two-continent portfolio featuring mesmerizing wildlife images from Africa and South America, including a heartwarming collection of lion cub photographs.
